The three Sikhs were convicted for the âbooks, literature and pamphletsâ, that were found in their possession allegedly for Khalistan propaganda and for inciting people. He was a prominent leader of the Ghadar movement. Bhai Randhir Singh was a tehsildar and he gave up his lucrative and prestigious job to fight for the freedom of our country. One of the quotes on a pamphlet recovered from three Sikh youths by Nawanshahr police, which became the basis for their conviction for waging war against the state and sentence for life, is from a prison letter written by the prominent and revered freedom fighter Bhai Randhir Singh who remained in jail for over 15 years (1915-30) during the British rule and was tortured by them. It seems quoting from the works of a highly respected freedom fighter, who used words as a weapon against the British, can land you in jail for life.
